It was recently reported that the young 25-year-old Haredi woman who crossed into Syria and was detained by Syrian authorities has returned to Israel, after a week of diplomatic discussions. Apparently, Russian President Vladimir Putin arranged for her to be released in exchange for two Syrian shepherds.

Following this incident, MK Ayoob Kara proclaimed: “The fact that a young woman crossed into Syria from Israel is a serious incident and is a warning sign. This is a scandal that warrants an independent investigation into a how a young woman crossed Israel’s most sophisticated and protected border right after there were improvements and additional constructions along it, even though the defense establishment stated there was no fence where she crossed.”

“This makes one ponder, how did she do it under the watchful eyes of the IDF and did she have assistance and support from the security system,” he added.

“It is not only the heavy price paid for her freedom that is being tested and we may not yet know it all, but rather the relative ease at which she managed to cross an enemy border unhindered,” MK Kara noted. “It is a difficult thought to bear that a terrorist could have crossed that border with the same ease and harmed Israeli citizens.”
